The Launch of the Telecoms ICT Career Framework: Shaping the Future of Telecoms
The Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP), the leading professional body in the telecommunications industry, is proud to announce the launch of the Telecoms ICT Career Framework. This pioneering initiative, developed in partnership with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), Ofcom, and UKTIN, aims to revolutionise career pathways within the sector.
Addressing Industry Needs
The framework comes as a response to the industry's need for a comprehensive guide that outlines clear routes into and throughout the sector. Despite the industry's rapid evolution and growth with new technologies and innovations reshaping the landscape, a standardised framework tailored to telecoms roles has been lacking until now.
"We are thrilled to introduce the Telecoms ICT Career Framework, a milestone achievement made possible by the dedication and collaboration of industry experts, contributors, and supporters," said Charlotte Goodwill, CEO at the ITP. "This represents a significant step forward in providing clarity and guidance to professionals seeking to navigate their careers within the evolving telecoms landscape."
This initiative has garnered endorsements from numerous leading industry players, including Ofcom, DSIT, BT Group, Vorboss, Openreach, UKTIN, Cluttons, Cornerstone, Ogi, WM5G, Satellite Applications Catapult, UKTL, and more.
A Living Document
One of the standout features of the Telecoms ICT Career Framework is its design as a living document. It is intended to evolve and adapt over time, reflecting the ever-changing nature of the industry and incorporating feedback from industry members. This ongoing collaborative effort ensures that the framework remains relevant and responsive to the needs of telecoms professionals.
"We recognise that the career framework is a living document that relies on the engagement and input of our members and the broader industry," added Charlotte. "We encourage individuals working in telecoms roles to come forward and share their insights, experiences, and expertise to further enhance and refine the framework to better serve the needs of our industry."
Engaging the Workforce
As part of this initiative, the ITP is inviting individuals working in telecoms roles to contribute job details and short "day in the life" videos to be included in the framework. These videos will provide invaluable insights into the realities of working in various telecoms positions, offering aspiring professionals a first-hand glimpse into the diverse opportunities available within the industry.
Aligning with the Future Telecoms Campaign
The launch of the Telecoms ICT Career Framework is a crucial part of the broader Future Telecoms campaign, which aims to identify the skills and talent needs of the telecoms industry of tomorrow. This framework is essential not only for understanding the current skills and talent requirements but also for anticipating and planning for future needs.
Enabling a Diverse Future Vision
To achieve this vision, the Telecoms ICT Career Framework focuses on several key areas:
Career Clarity
By outlining clear career paths, the framework helps individuals understand the various roles and opportunities available, making it easier to pursue a career in telecoms.
Inclusivity
The framework emphasises inclusivity, encouraging a diverse range of individuals to enter and progress within the industry.
Skill Development
By highlighting the skills and qualifications needed for different roles, the framework helps professionals and aspiring individuals to develop the necessary competencies to have a successful career in Telecoms.
This initiative is about more than just career paths; it's about building a future where everyone has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from the telecoms sector.
